Ladder accidents
How do Accidents happen?
How can we prevent them?
By ensuring
that you as an employer are aware of your responsibilities and the
recommendations from the HSE on ladder use. Train your staff and
ensure that they have all the necessary equipment. WAHR 2005 specifies
that a ladder can be prevented from slipping by securing
the stiles at the upper or lower ends, essentially
by tying where possible. This is very safe, but of
course in reality there is often nothing secure
enough to actually tie the ladder to. Also as "footing"
is not recommended by HSE now, it is difficult to
secure the ladder whilst it is being tied at the
top. Now, however, the WAHR also specifies using
an "Effective anti-slip or other effective stability
device". This is where using LadderMate and TopMate
will help you to comply.
